Solar energy

Solar energy plays a key role in the clean energy transition. It will contribute to reaching the objectives of the REPowerEU plan and reduce the EU’s dependence on fossil fuels. olar is the source of energy that is growing at the highest pace in the EU. In 2020, the EU solar market grew by 18 GW and 5.2% of the EU’s total electricity production came from solar energy. Solar energy is cheap, clean, modular and flexible.

The changed geopolitical situation and last year’s energy crisis has only increased the urgency for wind energy to become the backbone of Europe’s new energy system. With strong growth coming back in established European markets such as Germany, Spain, the UK, France, Italy and Turkey, the European onshore market will take off again from 2024.

Wind is already 17% of all electricity consumed in Europe today. It will be Europe’s number-one source of electricity before the end of this decade. Today the EU has just over 200 GW of wind energy. The European Commission wants this to grow to 1,300 GW by 2050. Further agreements are on a higher renewable energy target of 42.5% for 2030. The energy transition will accelerate we need to deliver stable, secure and competitive electricity to our European customers.
