Laird advances EMI absorbers for RF/Microwave and mm wave applications

Laird, a DuPont business, is expanding its material sciences expertise in EMI mitigation. Laird is moving from fillers to resins and is introducing innovative new RF/microwave and mm wave absorbers to the market. The well-known Laird™ Eccosorb™ brand has steadily advances, with new form factors and higher performance grades to match customer challenges across the frequency band, from 10MGhz to above 100GHz in multiple industries.

Our solutions are formulated and designed to withstand normal environments as well as hard outdoor environments such as automotive or aerospace / military. All require the guaranteeing of reliable electromagnetic interference-compliant performance over time.

The Laird product line features innovations in the three frequency ranges:

  • Low frequency: Below 6Ghz solution grades with increased permeability and high attenuation enabling the use of more compact thicknesses. The noise suppressor product family, active from 10Mhz to 3Ghz, now offers features such as high temperature, reflow compliancy and ULV0. For free space applications, Laird’s standard multilayer absorber foams are the choice.
  • Medium frequency: Different broadband grades are available from 6Ghz to 35Ghz. They are either elastomer-based and mainly for cavity resonance purposes, or PU foam-based solutions for insertion loss and reflectivity purposes.
  • High frequency: Above 35Ghz, new solutions are now available or will be released as the market evolves toward mm wave applications in multiple industries. These grades include Laird products exhibiting twice the performance of previous generations as well as a surface-texture concept called Laird™ Rezorb™, available as either an elastomer or thermoplastic material.
