KEMET | Optimising Wide Bandgap applications with the latest passive component innovations

Online, On Demand

Wide Bandgap (WBG) semiconductors composed of silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) enable a future of more efficient, smaller power conversion circuits. These new materials can operate at higher voltages and temperatures and faster frequencies than conventional silicon, and engineers will need to select new passive components to realise the potential size and efficiency benefits for their applications.

To meet these challenges, passive component manufacturers are developing solutions that can operate at higher switching voltages, increased switching frequencies and higher operating temperatures, whilst continually striving for downsized components.

Hosted by Martin Keenan, Technical Director, Avnet Abacus, with a 40-minute presentation from Pranjal Srivastava, Field Applications Engineer Central Europe, KEMET, this webinar will address the major challenges and trade-offs engineers must consider in the selection of passive components for Wide Bandgap applications, including:

  • Reducing component sizes
  • Optimising thermal dissipation
  • Operating at higher frequencies
  • Increasing reliability
  • Selecting for ripple current capability
  • Filtering EMI
