High-Performance DC-Link Solutions for SiC and GaN Converters
TDK’s ModCap modular DC-link film capacitors are designed for high‑current, high‑temperature DC-link stages in power converters that use wide‑bandgap devices such as SiC and GaN. With very low ESL around 8 nH, low ESR and long lifetime, they deliver stable DC-link performance in compact, thermally challenging designs for renewable energy, energy storage, traction and industrial drives. The ModCap family includes ModCap MF (B25645), ModCap HF (B25647) and the new ModCap UHP (B25648) series, giving engineers a scalable platform from medium-frequency DC links to high-frequency with 105 °C performance.

Ultra-high Performance +105 °C DC-link
ModCap UHP is TDK’s latest generation of DC-link film capacitors for converters that must run hotter and harder without increasing footprint. Using a BOEPN dielectric (a blend of polypropylene and cyclic olefin copolymer), ModCap UHP raises the rated hotspot temperature by 15 K compared with standard BOPP film and supports higher current density.

Frequently Asked Questions
ModCap MF (B25645) is the medium‑frequency DC-link family for robust, cost‑effective industrial and renewable converters. ModCap HF (B25647) targets high‑frequency DC-links with very low ESL and ESR for advanced semiconductor switches. ModCap UHP (B25648) adds a BOEPN dielectric to support +105 °C hotspot operation and higher current density for the most thermally demanding designs.
Use ModCap UHP when your DC-link sits close to hot SiC or GaN modules, when ambient or coolant temperatures are high, or when you need to reduce the number of capacitors in parallel while still meeting lifetime targets at elevated hotspot temperatures.
Yes. Both series share the same rectangular 205 mm × 90 mm × 170 mm footprint and screw‑terminal layout, so ModCap UHP can often be used as a drop‑in mechanical replacement for ModCap HF, subject to electrical and thermal checks.
Very low ESL, low ESR over frequency and high current capability make ModCap a strong choice for SiC and GaN DC-link capacitors in high‑efficiency power electronics. These characteristics help control voltage overshoot, reduce losses and maintain long‑term reliability in wide‑bandgap converter designs.
Typical uses include solar and wind converters, electrolyzers, energy storage system inverters, traction inverters, harsh‑environment IP65 drives and high‑power industrial DC‑DC converters, where power density and thermal robustness are critical.
