Case study: a social distancing solution for industrial workers

Avnet Abacus helped an industrial customer get its wearable social distancing device to market quickly, to protect the safety of factory workers.

The customer requirement

Our customer urgently needed to increase production on a wearable safety product in a factory environment. Designed to accurately measure the distance between vehicles and persons, they extended the functionality of the product to include distance between people, enabling factory staff to work safely whilst observing social distancing and proximity control. For this, they needed fast availability on a lithium rechargeable battery so the safety units could be placed in the field within a very short time period.

The solution

To support significantly increased production volumes, Avnet Abacus’ battery specialists identified a standard product from our linecard, reducing lead time on the first batch of 10,000 pieces from 24 to 2 weeks, whilst securing stock for 50,000 pieces later this year and 100,000 pieces by 2021, without incurring any additional cost. Our technical specialists also provided assistance by adding the right connector to the battery.
