Murata POL DC-DC converter with PMBus interface for FPGAs

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has added products with the PMBus*2 interface to the small size, high power density, and high reliability “MonoBK™ (monoblock)” series of POL*1 DC-DC converters. This time, the company will be introducing the 24A product: MYMGM1R824ELA5RA and 16A product: MYMGM1R816ELA5RA.

The MYMGM series is equipped with an industry standard PMBus interface that makes it possible to configure, control, and monitor power supply. It also has 20% higher power density compared with the existing “MonoBK™”*3. In addition, with the downsizing of modules made possible by Murata’s original packaging technology, the mounting area of FPGAs*4, ASICs, and other kinds of LSI power supply rails was reduced, which contributes to the effective use of board space.

*1     POL: Point of Load. A DC-DC converter placed near an LSI such as an FPGA or ASIC as a dedicated power supply circuit.
*2     PMBus: Abbreviation of Power Management Bus. A communication standard for setting, controlling, and monitoring power converters.
*3     Comparison between MYMGK1R820 series and MYMGK1R812 series.
*4     FPGA: Field Programmable Gate Array LSI with circuits that can also be rewritten later on.

Murata has added products with the PMBus interface to the small size, high power density “MonoBK™ (monoblock)” series of POL DC-DC converters.
