It’s Time to re-shape Industrial Communication: Use cases and implementation of Time Sensitive Networks

NXP Logo

TSN is a key enabling technology for industrial communication that has been standardised over recent years.

And with a host of new products entering the market, it has advanced from an embryonic concept into a solution that’s ready for implementation.

Join Avnet Silica and its leading suppliers to learn more about the benefits TSN can bring to your IIoT application, including:

  • high-speed networking
  • large volumes of data transmission
  • precise motion control and low latency
  • guaranteed real-time communication.

Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) - Introduction, Benchmarking and Application in GNU/Linux (Michael Röder, Avnet Silica)

This session provides an introduction into using TSN as a standard for converged Ethernet for Industrial Automation by looking into the requirements of industrial control networks and how some TSN standards contribute to these, without deep diving into the individual standards.

It then looks into using TSN on GNU/Linux and how to leverage hardware acceleration of TSN-enabled NICs and switches.

Adopting TSN for IIoT applications (Arno Stock, Renesas)

TSN marks a breakthrough enabling real time Ethernet applications based on standardized IEEE features. It can seamlessly cover real time requirements as add on to enhance existing non real-time IoT Ethernet applications. For the Industrial IoT world (IIoT) the situation differs.

Several proprietary derivatives of Ethernet are in the field and most of them cannot simply adopt TSN features. This leads to a transition phase, which could easily be as long as 10 to 20 Years. During this phase, today's industrial Ethernet standards coexist with the new, TSN based standards. This presentation shows solutions how to support both worlds during this transition phase helping to preserve investments by long life time of your developments.
