The Power of Single Pair Ethernet
online, on-demand
Transformative Technology for Seamless Connectivity
Join us on the journey to the revolution of Ethernet communication with Single Pair Ethernet. Avnet Silica, together with our partners, will provide you insides on SPE solutions and implementations.
Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) is a milestone of the Ethernet technology, suitable for industrial automation, process automation, building automation, transportation, agriculture vehicles, automotive and other markets and will enable new applications. With SPE a homogeneous Ethernet network architecture from the sensor to the cloud can be realised, and with just one twisted pair, the cabling will be easier and lower cost too.
This webinar covers in multiple session topics around SPE technology, its advantages, use cases and applications as well as implementation solutions. The attendees will have the opportunity to engage with industry leaders during the live Q&A sessions.

Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) is on the rise. Digital data is changing our lives and our networked production processes. The key is fast and compact access to information, as well as end-to-end communication from the sensor to the cloud. In factory automation alone, experts expect 50 million single-pair Ethernet connection points by 2030, which is precisely where SPE offers numerous new possibilities in PROFINET applications.
Modern automation systems use Ethernet-based communication at the control level. At the sensor/actuator level, communication mainly takes place with various fieldbus systems. Transferring data from a fieldbus-based system to Ethernet poses technical hurdles and avoidable data transfer costs. SPE offers a standardised key technology for the implementation of compact, digital sensor systems.

When the 10BASE-T1S specifications were written, automakers wanted to document the minimum number of nodes and cable reach that they needed. Therefore, minimums were included along with a description of the channel. These minimums are greatly exceeded by current silicon implementations. This presentation will give an overview of the channel requirements along with simulations and measurements of various configurations. It will also show a demonstrator connecting 50 nodes over 100m of cabling.

Single Pair Ethernet, originating in the automotive sector, addresses critical factors like weight and installation space. As cars electrify, Electric Range (WLTP) becomes crucial. Autonomy demands a communication standard with synchronization, low latency, and higher bandwidths, aiming to replace existing bus systems cost-effectively.
Beyond automotive, various applications require increased bandwidth and network functionalities. This presentation explores the vast potential of SPE outside the automotive industry, focusing on essential considerations for transmission speed and power supply design.

10BASE-T1L is entering the market for Process and Building Automation applications. With its link speed of 10 Mbit/s and the support for Power over Data Lines, it is ideally positioned to success the conventional field bus systems.
We went a step further and investigated the properties of the technology for demanding application such as distributed sensor systems with high time accuracy requirements, and nonstationary installations in mechanically harsh environments. The presentation is about our findings and the recommendations we derive from these. 10BASE-T1L is a very useful technology, but system designers should be aware of these limitations.
