NXP Semiconductors TJA1421 and TJA1425
1.8 V VIO capable Single and Quad LIN transceivers
The TJA1421 single channel LIN transceiver and the TJA1425 highly-integrated quad LIN commander expand the NXP LIN portfolio with enhanced EMC/ESD robustness, 1.8 V MCU compatibility, and ultra-low power operation for automotive sub networks up to 20 kBd.
TJA1421 is a drop in upgrade to TJA1021, enabling higher LIN node counts, improved reliability, and seamless support for modern low voltage MCUs.
The TJA1425 integrates four LIN commander channels with built in termination, delivering significant BoM and PCB savings for cost and space efficient multi-channel LIN designs, while upgrading TJA1124 with enhanced performance and flexibility.
Designed for body electronics, gateways, and automotive ECUs requiring reliable, scalable LIN connectivity.
Key features
- Intended for in-vehicle subnetworks using baud rates up to 20 kBd
- Compliant with LIN 2.x, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J2602 and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17987-4:2016 (12 V).
- High ESD robustness on LIN and VBAT pins
- Bus, WAKE_N and battery pins protected against transients in automotive environments
- Bus terminals short-circuit proof to battery and ground
- Thermal protection
- TXD dominant timeout function
- LIN dominant timeout function (TJA1425)
- MCU time-out function
- The TJA1421 is pin-to-pin compatible with the TJA1021
- Available in SO8 and HVSON8 packages:
- Package: SO8: plastic, small outline package; 8 leads; 1.27 mm pitch; 4.9 mm x 3.9 mm x 1.75 mm body
- Package: HVSON8: plastic thermal enhanced very thin small outline package; no leads; 8 terminals; 0.65 mm pitch, 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.85 mm body
- The TJA1425 is pin-to-pin compatible with the TJA1124
- Available only in DHVQFN24 package:
- Package: DHVQFN24: plastic, dual in-line compatible thermal enhanced very thin quad flat package; 24 terminals; 0.5 mm pitch; 3.5 mm x 5.5 mm x 0.85 mm body
- Optimized LIN IP EMC / ESD performance
- Fully compliant to the latest global standards (IEC 62228-2: 2016 and SAE J2962-1: 2024)
- 8 kV ESD on pin LIN (IEC 61000-4-2)
- In TJA1421:
- Integrated tighter responder termination ([27.66, 48 kΩ] vs [20, 60 kΩ]) to support:
- More LIN responder nodes in the same network
- Reduce the LIN ports in zonal MCU for e.g. interior lighting, air flaps application
- Complex network and longer cables for same amount of LIN responder nodes
- In TJA1425:
- Both SLP and SLP_N offered for customer’s different need
- SLP_N: preferred as it could prevent current leakage to MCU due to integrated pull-up
- SLP: in case of p2p compatible with TJA1124
- Expand the host to 1.8 V MCU to support all kinds of applications
- High-end zonal and central computing ECU for infotainment, cockpit application
- MCU time-out fail-safe feature: to minimize the power consumption
