Cordless power tool reference design
Compact, efficient and flexible control for Brushless DC (BLDC) motor based power tools
The reference design combines Toshiba’s high efficient low-voltage MOSFET devices with Toshiba’s dedicated motor control MCU and thus provides a very compact but flexible platform for the control and drive of BLDC motors in power tools. The Motor current is generated by a 3-phase inverter with 200W output power stage using the Toshiba TPH1R204PB low-voltage MOSFET. This device features industry-leading RDS(ON) in a 5×6mm SOP Advanced package and provides low spike generation helping to prevent EMI effects. The inverter is controlled by the TMPM4K2FYADUG, an ARM®-Cortex®-M4F based MCU featuring a dedicated hardware coprocessor for sensorless Field Oriented Control (FOC)* of BLDC motors and an Advanced Programmable Motor Driver circuit (A-PMD) that allows the implementation of Low-Speed Sensorless (LSSL)* control – an advanced software algorithm providing precise control and high torque even at low rotation speed.
Main PCB
- Compact form factor (60 x 50 mm)
- 3-phase inverter, 200W output stage
- MCU with dedicated hardware supporting sensorless Field Oriented Control (FOC)* and Low-Speed Sensorless (LSSL)** control
- Interface PCB
- Speed control switch
- Pilot lamp

Factory Automation
The increasingly comprehensive automation in the industry is driven by macro trends such as reshoring, i.e. the relocation of manufacturing facilities from emerging countries back to industrialised states, a global shortage of skilled labour.

Analog & Power Management
The era of digitalisation is ever advancing, almost as if our world were solely represented and controlled by ones and zeros. Every physical variable – be it an audio signal, temperature, voltage – is an analog value.

Toshiba Photorelays
Toshiba offers low RON, low CoFF photorelays in ultra-small VSON/S-VSON packages for semiconductor test system applications, and general-purpose photorelays in various packages featuring high current and high off-state voltage.
