The traction inverter converts the energy from the vehicle’s high voltage battery to drive the electric traction motor. This key component has a direct impact on the vehicle performance and electric range. 

Subject to all the environmental conditions found in a vehicle, the traction inverters must handle the high power and currents along with the associated Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) challenges as well as provide fail-safe operation to ensure dependability and safety for the driver and passengers. 

In order to increase the traction inverter's power efficiency and for reducing the size and weight, ST offers a broad portfolio of discrete semiconductors including AEC-Q101 qualified IGBTs, silicon and silicon-carbide (SiC) MOSFETs and diodes, AEC-Q100 qualified galvanically isolated gate drivers for IGBTs and MOSFETs, and SPC5 32-bit Automotive microcontrollers for designing scalable, cost-effective and energy-efficient inverter solutions.
