Topics

Day 1

29/06/2021 – 09:30 AM CEST

How to implement 5G into Smart City and Industry applications (Dominikus Hierl, Quectel)

As the world's leading provider of cellular modules, Quectel is at the forefront of development in the global IoT market, which has so far been dominated by 2G and 3G solutions. The arrival of 5G and enhanced mobile broadband brings about countless new applications for machine-to-machine communication, while NB-IoT and LTE-M will provide future-proof alternatives to technologies currently serving low-data use cases. Quectel offers a wide portfolio of modules that meet current and future requirements for 5G; our current focus is on maximum compatibility between products, and ensuring they can easily migrate to new standards.

Quectel offers extensive technical assistance to enable our customers to integrate 5G technology quickly, providing support on all design-relevant aspects such as power supply, antenna integration and application development. This webinar provides an overview of how 5G's features can support IoT applications, as well as guidance on implementation.

Adaptive SoCs Enable Wireless Factory Automation within 5G Non Public Networks (Michael Zapke, AMD-Xilinx)

Modern networked factory equipment hosts advanced applications which don't need awareness of the underlying network physics. Middleware like DDS and OPC UA enables access to information from all connected nodes. A common and scalable network infrastructure is the backbone across which data with appropriate low-level characteristics like latency and throughput can be exchanged.

With Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), stream identification practices on ISO/OSI Layer 2 became the main method to determine the characteristics with which each individual data frame will be transported. Latency bound traffic shares the network with high bandwidth peer-to-peer and multicast connections, with Audio/Video streams and with Best Effort traffic. Hardware logic identifies streams and schedules their transmission frame-by-frame, so that isochronous and cyclic data can use the same cable as all other traffic.

Today, wired Ethernet is the right choice, but wired networks require planning and adaptation for LAN architectures with switches, cable trees and patch panels. Laying physical cables is expensive and installations in the factory have limited scalability. To overcome this, and to prepare factories for another leap in productivity, the next step is a transition to wireless connectivity with 5G Radio Access Network Campus networks and sessions qualities like Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC). This talk will discuss how Adaptive SOCs help to speed-up this transition with TSN Translation functions for 5G.

29/06/2022 – 10:30 AM CEST

Antenna integration in Smart Home and Industrial Devices (Walter Puhl, Avnet Silica)

Proper integration of antennas into IoT designs for Smart Home and Industry is key. Hence we are explaining some basics, showing possible implementations and  "the do's and don't's ". Also different kind of antennas will be explained as well.

29/06/2022 – 11:00 AM CEST

eUICC benefits combined with superb BICS Global Roaming Connectivity (Vincent Godel - BICS, Romain Tesniere - Avnet Silica)

eUICC is the key for simplified implementation of industrial SIM solutions bringing flexibility as well as remote management and control of the SIM. Reducing cost for service, enabling smooth processes in Production, stocking and field installation.

As an independent of the connectivity provider, we offer a way for our customer to choose with which carrier they want to work with. Without having to chance physically the SIM card into device when it comes to change the carrier.

This is future proof solution combining with world class connectivity and roaming provider such as BICS provides a complete industrial & reliable solution for all cellular based devices.

29/06/2022 – 11:30 AM CEST

Create a complex battery-operated cellular IoT product that run for years (Martin Lesund, Nordic Semiconductor)

In this webinar you will get to know the nRF9160 System-in-Package, and why it is a good choice for Smart City and Industrial 5G applications.

The nRF9160 SiP is Nordic’s low power LTE-M/NB-IoT/GNSS cellular IoT solution. Its ARM Cortex M33 application processor enables machine learning on the edge, allowing the nRF9160 to send only the essential data to the cloud. This saves power because application processing often consumes less energy than sending data via LTE.

You’ll learn:

  • How the nRF9160 SiP and Edge Computing enables Smart City and Industrial applications
  • How to develop applications with the nRF9160 SiP
  • How the nRF9160 SiP is utilized in real-life use cases
