The growing prevalence of electric two-wheelers, city cars, and hybrid/plug-in electric vehicles demands an increased number of high-power motor drive applications. These applications must provide significant mechanical power, previously delivered through mechanical coupling to combustion engines. Beyond motor drives, MOSFETs play roles as isolation switches and in small DC/DC converters in such applications. Using the e-compressor as an illustration, we'll examine MOSFET requirements for all three functions to assist in MOSFET selection. Additionally, we'll discuss tools from Nexperia that facilitate the MOSFET selection process.
