The RZ/V series is embedded with Renesas’ original AI accelerator – DRP AI, targeting at the vision AI market space. The DRP AI delivers both high performance and low power consumption. RZ/V2L is the entry-line device, and the second version of the "RZ/V series" microprocessor with a built-in AI accelerator – DRP-AI – for vision, which is Renesas' original technology. With the rising needs for real-time recognition application using AI, developers are facing challenges in increasing power consumption and heat dissipation required for AI processing. Leveraging the high-power efficiency, which is a key feature of DRP-AI, RZ/V2L can operate with low power consumption. This eliminates the need for heat dissipation measures such as heat sinks and cooling fans contributing to downsizing of equipment and cost reduction of the entire system. RZ/V2L can support not only AI but also various image processing by using the DRP portion of the DRP-AI, which has a key feature of flexibility. For example, by using DRP to perform color correction and noise reduction of input / output images, it is possible to use an inexpensive camera module that does not have an image processing function, which contributes to cost reduction of the entire system.

Furthermore, the RZ/V2L is pin-compatible with the RZ/G2L general-purpose MPU, achieving upward functional compatibility. This makes it easy to build a product lineup with or without AI functions in the same system configuration. It is also equipped with 3D graphics and video codecs, and support GUI rendering. RZ/V2M is the first product in RZ/V series and is being mass-produced as an application specific standard product for Vision AI. RZ/V2M is also equipped with DRP-AI, making it upward compatible with RZ/V2L in terms of performance. In addition, RZ/V2M is equipped up to 4K camera input and hardware ISP can be adapted Vision AI application with single chip.

Renesas provides a winning combination of power supply and clocking solutions optimized for the device so that customer can develop a system using RZ/V2L in a short time.
