RX671 - 32-bit microcontrollers for fast real-time control and contactless HMI

Renesas RX761 MCU - top view

The RX671 MCU combines high performance, low power consumption, hygienic UI, cloud connectivity, and extremely small package breaks the barrier of various limitations in small IoT applications.

Compared to the RX651, the RX671 has enhanced features such as the higher power efficiency of 48.8 CoreMark/mA, capacitive touch sensing, voice recognition over long distances by digital microphones, and easy-to-mount small 48-pin HWQFN package.

Furthermore, the RX671 provides a more powerful choice to customers that need microcontrollers with a capacitive touch sensing unit. In the case of home appliances, the RX671’s cloud connectivity enables remote control from the outdoors, informing usage data to users, firmware update for correcting bugs or adding new functions. Additionally, the Trusted Secure IP protects communication data including user’s private information from eavesdropping and prevents firmware tampering by integrity check. The dual bank function enables firmware updates in the background without stopping user’s usual operations.

As mentioned above, the RX671 enhances the lineup of not only RX600 series but also microcontrollers that support capacitive touch sensing.

The industry's most efficient RXv3 core performs 5.90CoreMark/MHz and realizes best in class performance at 120MHz against competitors 200MHz devices. Furthermore, thanks to the Renesas’ customized 40nm process, the RX671 achieves 48.8CoreMark/mA that is the industry’s highest class of power efficiency.

Hygienic UI required in the new normal during/after COVID-19 can be realized by the RX671's features. The capacitive touch sensing unit makes it easier to develop easy-to-clean flat control panels and proximity switches. The serial sound interface enables to connect digital microphones that are essential for voice recognition over long distances. The RX671 voice recognition solution contributes to reducing development time; no need to spend a lot of time to select a partner that has the voice recognition middleware proven in the market. The optimized development tools and the sample programs help effective trial and error.

Evaluation boards

Two types of easy-to-use boards are available for rapid prototyping and detailed evaluation.

The Target Board for RX671 provides a flexible and affordable platform for rapid prototyping and allows users to easily take ideas into shape. This board features a 100-pin LFQFP device, a Pmod connector, an onboard emulator, and through holes for pin headers that allow access to all signal pins of the RX671.

The Renesas Starter Kit+ for RX671 provides a complete platform for device evaluation and allows users to easily develop applications with the features of the RX671. This board features a 144-pin LFQFP device, two Pmod connectors, capacitive touch buttons and a slider, digital microphones, speakers/headphones outputs, etc. Additionally, this board is scheduled to pass the FreeRTOS qualification in combination with the Renesas' Wi-Fi Pmod Expansion Board by middle of August 2021. Users can download the qualified programs from the GitHub and promptly start the evaluation.
