Smart sensor nodes are key enablers of automation and smart industry applications on modern factory floors. In the context of condition-based monitoring and predictive maintenance, Smart Sensor Node is based on sensing elements, MCU or MCU SoC connectivity and transceiver and power management which requirements depend upon the application use case.

Distributed I/Os
Input/Output (I/O) modules collect data from input devices including proximity, pressure, temperature sensors and push buttons, and control actuators such as valves, relays and lamps (output devices). These modules can either be added to a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) control cabinet or be integrated in manufacturing equipment on the factory floor.
ST's range of Intelligent Power Switches (IPS) includes devices with embedded galvanic isolation, ensuring protection against overload and avoiding EMC Failures, as well as Current-Limited Termination (CLT) ICs, to provide a fully protected integrated interface, compliant with IEC 61131-2 specifications.
