STEVAL-FSM01M1: Brand new safe digital I/O module powered by ST
Our brand new evaluation board STEVAL-FSM01M1 is a safe dual channel digital I/O module compatible with the STM32 Nucleo boards. Its system architecture reflects our long-term experience with designing digital I/O applications to reach the highest-grade robustness and to meet the requirements on reliability of operation in the most challenging industrial environments such as factory automation and functional safety.

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are the key application enabling factories to operate in an automated way. PLC is typically built up as a modular system consisting of several blocks, such as control unit (often called central processing unit, CPU) and multiple Input / Output or other function modules (expansion modules). Control unit communicates with the expansion modules over a dedicated and usually a customer-specific bus called backplane interface.
