This newly launched high-performance distribution center is Avnet's third logistics location in Europe, alongside Poing (Germany) and Tongeren (Belgium). Poing (Germany)
Avnet Logistics specializes in the handling of electronic components, ensuring robust protection against electrostatic discharge and operating under rigorously maintained management systems. The Logistics Center in Poing demonstrates its commitment to meeting the demanding requirements of the aviation, space, and defense industries. This includes strict controls over quality, safety, and reliability throughout the supply chain—covering chain of custody, traceability, inventory management, and comprehensive record-keeping.
The warehouse, established in 2011, spans a total area of 32,000 m². It contains 289,000 shelf storage locations and 45,000 locations within the automated AutoStore system.
The AutoStore
The AutoStore is a unique worldwide-patented warehouse system proven to be the ideal small-goods handler. With standardised boxes stacked in a cube, it is the most space-efficient goods-to-man system on the market. Besides that, there are 31.000 storage locations in the pallet area. The warehouse also features a sequencer, whose task is to collect all the individual items of orders and shipments, sort, store, save and perform together. The sequencer's performance is far above the current industry standard: twelve independent shuttles in three equally independent lanes allow 1200 called games per lane. Sufficient for each job density and a significant relief for picking.
Tongeren (Belgium)
The Tongeren Distribution Center specializes in handling interconnect, passive, and electromechanical (IP&E) products for various Avnet business units. Operations are supported by robust management systems that ensure high standards in quality, environmental responsibility, product protection, occupational health & safety and customs compliance. The logistics center demonstrates its alignment with the stringent requirements of the aviation, space, and defense industries. This includes comprehensive controls over chain of custody, traceability, inventory management, and record availability—ensuring reliability and transparency throughout the supply chain. Strategically located within an industrial zone with access to major distribution carrier hubs, the Tongeren facility offers logistical advantages for efficient regional and international shipping.
Originally constructed in 1999, the site was expanded in 2008 and underwent significant modernization in 2018 and 2019. Today, it features a state-of-the-art warehouse with a footprint of 25,325 m² and potential for further expansion on adjacent land totaling 12,000 m². The organization is defined by a positive social working climate and a culture of continuous improvement, fostering operational excellence and employee engagement.
