Special attention must be paid to the link power budget calculation to not saturate the receivers. Peaking of the electrical input signal will be required if used for signaling rates above 12 MBd.

Broadcom offers a new family of AFBR-58x3xxZ transceivers for 125-MBd Fast Ethernet communication in energy distribution systems.

 
 
  • The new transceivers have a very low power dissipation of less than 0.5 Watt (max) and 0.3 Watt (typical), which is about 40% down compared to Broadcoms AFBR-5803–type.
  • The new transceivers are widely based on Broadcom’s tailor made inhouse semiconductors to support superior performance and reliability.
  • The transceivers are applicable to Fast Ethernet (100BASE-FX version of IEEE802.3u), FDDI and ATM designs at 100Mb/s-125Mb/s rates. The 2x9 transceivers provide DMI using the 2-wire serial interface as defined in the SFF-8472 MSA.
