Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 2024

Planned for autumn 2024

Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 2024 LTSC is the latest LTSC operating system with which Microsoft now offers Windows 11 features as a Long Term Servicing Channel version for embedded and IoT devices. Premium features such as advanced protection against modern security threats and comprehensive device management, app management, and control capabilities are included. Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 2024 LTSC includes the cumulative enhancements provided in Windows 11 version 24H2. Support for Wi-Fi 6 / 7 and USB 4 is now included.
Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 2024 LTSC continues to have a 10-year lifecycle and support with security updates through Microsoft.

There are no changes in the pricing model
It is based on the type/performance of processors used in your hardware.

Subject to change – please contact microsoft[at]avnet.eu for the actual CPU to license matching. The license prices vary depending on the type of processor you are using.

We are happy to send you an offer, based on your specific need and/or Tier level.

From the technical standpoint, there is no difference in between the 3 license options. It´s the same installation media without any feature restriction.
There are two update models available, covered under the following licensing options:

CBB/GAC

The CBB (Current Branch for Business) oder GAC (General Availability Channel) offers kernel feature updates once a year. During the year the OS will receive regularly security and other updates. The feature updates are mandatory and can change the OS up to a completely new OS version. In the past these feature updates took place twice a year and the 23H2 for example indicates the versioning.
Windows 11 IoT Enterprise CBB is a technically identical Windows 11 Enterprise version. IoT stands for the licensing channel of the software.

LTSC

As an alternative Microsoft offers a LTSC (Long Term Servicing Channel, formerly LTSB - Long Term Servicing Branch) version. The kernel is stable and will not change in this version.
For example, there is no Microsoft Store, OneDrive, Cortana and Copilot in this version. Security updates are available normally, but can be controlled by the device manufacturer and there is no requirement to install them.

Quality/Security updates: All versions of Windows 11 and Windows 10 devices will receive regular monthly quality updates to provide security updates and bug fixes.
Feature updates: Microsoft will provide a single Windows 11 CBB/GAC feature update annually, targeted for release in the second half of each calendar year.

Windows 11 Enterprise 2024 LTSC builds on Windows 11 version 24H2 adding IoT features designed to address the needs device builders such as:

  • Advanced protection against modern security threats with System Guard, Attack surface area reduction and Windows Security App
  • Full flexibility of OS deployment with SetupDiag and the latest ADK/MDT
  • Updating and support options
  • Comprehensive device and app management and control capabilities through Windows Sandbox and Microsoft Defender Application Guard
  • Staying with the 2 GB minimum Memory requirement is Microsoft‘s response to the industry feedback
  • 16 GB Storage is the minimum hardware requirement, but optional image size configuration is possible with removable packages (up to 30 packages)
  • TPM is optional
  • DirectX10+ Graphics is required
  • Dolby Codecs are no longer included in the licenses and have to be sourced from Dolby

Note: Not all features in an update will work on all devices. A device may not be able to receive updates if the device hardware is incompatible, lacks current drivers, or is otherwise outside the original equipment manufacturer’s (OEM) support period.
