Avnet’s Forecast Management solution responds to your needs by ensuring you the right level of supply, helping to underpin your business agility. We provide you with easy-to-use protocols to share forecast data, and our specialists are on hand to help validate the information, advise you of any exceptions, and identify demand changes in your market or sector.
Collaboration throughout the supply chain is vital for an effective Forecast Management solution. That’s why we help you optimise your processes to ensure that forecast changes are communicated across the supply chain – as close to real time as possible. This helps avoid any impact to the upstream supply base and minimise the risk of the bullwhip effect.
Bullwhip effect in the supply chain
One of the big challenges in supply chain management is the Bullwhip Effect. The concept has its roots in J Forrester's Industrial Dynamics (1961) and thus it is also known as the Forrester Effect. As the oscillating demand is magnified upstream within a supply chain, it can appear to resemble a cracking whip, which is why it was later nicknamed the Bullwhip Effect. The illustration below shows what can happen when demand changes and forecast data are not communicated quickly enough.
At Avnet, our goal is to provide the most accurate input data to ensure that you have the material you need at the exact time you need it. Also, we help you ensure that your communication processes are running efficiently to avoid the bullwhip scenario. That way, you minimise your supply base risks and keep your production and processes flowing smoothly.
