High-reliability COTS components

The cost sensitivity of ‘New Space’ projects means that consumer-off-the-shelf (COTS) based components, rather than ones that are space-grade, will generally be mandated. This can enable price reductions of at least an order of magnitude to be benefitted from. As well as being at acceptable price points, these COTS components must still be robust and reliable enough to cope with the challenging application environments into which they are placed.
