D TaC Air-Gap Bonding
DTaC (Display-Touch-and-Cover) air-gap bonding is a cost-effective method of assembling display stacks by leaving a controlled air gap between the cover glass and the display module. This approach simplifies manufacturing and reduces costs while maintaining acceptable optical performance for many applications. Although it offers less optical clarity compared to optical bonding, it is ideal for devices where budget and ease of assembly are priorities.
Display, Touch, Air, Cover Glass
ISSUE: Replacing or shipping the complete standard stack (TFT–Touch–Cover) is expensive.
SOLUTION: Introduce an air gap between the DITO sensor and the cover glass.
What are the challenges with an AIR GAP Solution?
The dielectric constant of air is 1
For glass it is nearly 10
↓
0,5mm air Gap → 5mm Glass
For example, COVER GLASS = 7mm , AIR GAP = 0.5mm → 12mm GLASS
How can I tune an AIR GAP?
Easy way → Boost the Touch signal
↓
It makes the touch very unstable, and the risk of ghost touches is very high.
Our solution to address this issue:
Special Pattern for the Sensor
Special FW to increase the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)
Limitations of AIR GAP
AIR GAP between 0.3 - 0.6mm
MAX Cover Glass Thickness 7mm
Disadvantage Air GAP Solution:
Optical transmission loss of 3% due to air gap
