Broadcom - Safety in motor drives

Safety in motor drives entails measures to mitigate uncontrolled movements during electrical and mechanical failures.

The robust construction of gate drive optocouplers ensures the motor drives remain in a fail-safe mode and are galvanically insulated when electrically damaged.

Furthermore, Broadcom's new gate drivers can provide diagnostic feedback and receive STO(Safe Torque Off)  signals to prevent force-producing power from being supplied to the motor drives.

Nexperia - Low voltage MOSFETs used in Factory Automation

The global Industrial automation & control systems is a fast growing market segment due to the adoption of Industry 4.0. It is evolving rapidly with the introduction of sophisticated technologies, such as robotics, enabling efficient operation of manufacturing and material handling. These systems require high power brushless motor drives using Power MOSFETs, sometimes using several parts in parallel. Robotics can also use high-capacity Li battery systems that need to be safely isolated.

This presentation will focus on the Nexperia MOSFET portfolio targeting these demanding applications.

Power Integrations - Power conversion efficiency for electro-mechanical equipment

Power systems for factory and industrial equipment vary in output power: from auxiliary supplies at 10's of W to high-force machines requiring 10’s of kW.  All share common requirements of relatively short periods of high loads followed by long periods of idle mode, where standby or hibernation modes seek to minimize power consumption.

In this session, we will look at ways to achieve maximum power conversion efficiency across the load range, including standy and sleep modes, without sacrificing no-load or peak-load performance.  We will examine how this can be achieved with a minimized BOM to provide accurate, cost-effective, reliable power conversion.

The full output power spectrum will be covered:  from low-power switches, to mid-power designs leveraging power factor correction and LLC, to high-power systems employing large SiC and IGBT modules with sophisticated gate drivers.

Toshiba - How to tackle the challenges of migrating an IGBT based drive inverter to SiC MOSFETs

Using IGBT in Inverter Application is common practice since many years. All of these solutions have the disadvantage that the resulting systems are quite heavy and big and are getting hot during operation under load. To overcome these issues a replacement of the IGBTs by SiC MOSFETs is a proper solution.

During the presentation the benefits of SiC MOSFETs in contrast to IGBTs and their influence on the design and implementation of an inverter will be explained using a ready to use inverter as example.
