900 V PowiGaN-based InnoSwitch3-AQ supports 100 W oOutput in 400 V BEV systems
AEC-Q100 qualified InnoSwitch3-AQ flyback switcher IC family is now available with 900 V gallium-nitride (GaN) options. Featuring PI’s PowiGaN technology, the new devices deliver up to 100 W with better than 93% efficiency and eliminate the need for heatsinks. The increased power and design margin are particularly suitable for 12 V battery replacement in electric vehicles based on 400 V bus systems.
PI’s proprietary PowiGaN technology provides the reliability and ruggedness required to realize the 900 V rating. EV manufacturers are optimizing their 400 V systems and re-engineering various power stages in the vehicle, such as the traction invertor, the on-board charger and the emergency power supply. 900 V PowiGaN switches can easily accommodate inductive noise spikes and operate from as low as 30 VDC, enabling systems to meet functional safety active discharge requirements.
All InnoSwitch3-AQ devices feature synchronous rectification control, a valley-switching discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and continuous conduction mode (CCM) flyback controller. FluxLink communication technology enables the IC package to bridge the isolation barrier, eliminating the need for optocouplers and optimizing efficiency, which improves EV range and thermal management.
