The NB7200 Series is a two-cell Li-ion/Li-polymer battery protection IC designed to safeguard packs in space-constrained consumer and portable industrial designs. It integrates overcharge and overdischarge voltage detection, and charge/discharge overcurrent protection. At the heart of the NB7200 is a precision current monitor that enables discharge overcurrent detection accuracy of ±1.0 mV (VDET31), complemented by a selectable second-level discharge overcurrent threshold (VDET32) and short-circuit detection. Typical supply current is just 2 μA with a maximum of 4 μA, and standby current is capped at 0.2 μA on auto-release variants—figures that directly translate into longer shelf and operating life for battery-powered products. These specifications, alongside wide, finely stepped threshold ranges. The industry-class detection precision helps the engineer to design a highly accurate protection circuit. It also accepts the use of a small current sense resistor value, which is convenient to reduce heat dissipation at high currents.
