The AR55 Series is a versatile absolute encoder ASIC designed to meet the growing demand for large-diameter through-hollow shaft and linear applications. It offers a one-chip solution with the flexibility to support a wide range of overall product diameters, from 65 mm to 2682 mm. Additionally, the AR55 encoder supports linear absolute or incremental feedback solutions up to 8.39 meters in length.
The AR55 features user-programmable resolutions ranging from 1 bit to 32 bits for single-turn absolute outputs. It also provides differential analog Sine/Cosine or digital incremental ABIUVW signals, with configurable CPRs and pole-pairs. A state-of-the-art auto-calibration feature simplifies integration into end-user systems.
Designed for industrial environments, the AR55 operates within a recommended high-temperature range of –40°C to 115°C. Its dual-mode operating voltage (3.3V and 5V) enables compatibility with typical microcontroller (MCU) and field-programmable gate array (FPGA) device applications.
The AR55 Series also supports integration with Broadcom’s proprietary battery-less Energy Harvesting Multi-Turn (EHMT) solution. Alternatively, other multi-turn solutions — such as gear-based or battery-backed-up systems — are supported via a dedicated multi-turn (MT) interface port.
To enhance system design flexibility, the AR55 offers a variety of user-selectable communication protocols, including Encoder Serial Link (ESL), RS485 half-duplex, SSI, and SPI 4-wire.
