Advantech ROM-8720

Advantech ROM-8720 COM Express Type 7 Compact Computer-on-Module features an NXP LS1046A SoC with four Arm Cortex-A72 cores designed for Edge networking and Edge firewall applications.

High performance networking capabilities on the ROM-8720 include dual 10GBase-KR ports and up to four Gigabit Ethernet connections for advanced networking communications, while the integrated DPAA (Data Path Architecture Accelerations) SDK provides Queue/Buffer/Frame Manager and SEC encryption acceleration. The quad-core Arm Cortex-A72 processor running at 1.6GHz delivers robust edge computing performance with low power consumption design.

Comprehensive connectivity options are implemented on the compact 95mm x 95mm module, supporting three PCIe 1x Gen3, three USB 3.2 Gen1 and three USB 2.0 interfaces for embedded interface expansions. Additional I/O includes two 4-wire UART ports, one SPI interface, 8 GPIO, and I2C for embedded device control, while onboard eMMC 16GB storage and microSD slot provide flexible storage options alongside SO-DIMM socket supporting ECC and Non-ECC DDR4 up to 16GB.

The ROM-8720 pairs with Advantech SOM-DB5920 evaluation carrier board to enable faster end product peripheral integration and time-to-market. Reference schematics, layout checklists documentation for carrier board development, and comprehensive Linux BSP with DPAA SDK are provided, including test utilities, hardware design utilities and reference drivers for complete development support.

Extended industrial operating temperature range from -40°C to 70°C ensures reliable operation in demanding environments, while the COM Express Type 7 Compact form factor provides standardized connectivity and mechanical compatibility for embedded networking applications.
