LPDDR5  is the latest generation of Micron low power SDRAM and it delivers higher density in the same footprint but with lower power consumption and a higher data transfer rate than the previous generation. Emerging technologies, such as 5G mobile technology and autonomous driving, require a memory subsystem that needs a larger bandwidth to support real-time computing and data processing. Micron’s LPDDR5 SDRAM addresses the growing demand for higher memory performance and lower energy consumption across a wide array of markets, including automotive, client PCs and networking systems built for 5G and AI applications.

Key features

  • Densities: 16Gb to 128Gb - Provides higher density in a similar footprint
  • Configs: x16,x32,x64 - Enables the use of fewer components to support wide bus
  • Lower Core and IO power helps reduce power consumption
  • Data rates: 6400Mb/s(LPDDR5)/8533Mb/s(LPDDR5x) -up to 2 times faster to LPDDR4X

Additional features

  • Densities: 16Gb to 128Gb - Provides higher density in a similar footprint, more flexibility to support more application designs than the previous technology.
  • Configurations: x16, x32, x64 - Enables the use of fewer components to support wide bus architectures. LPDDR5 supports 32Gb per channel vs. LPDDR4’s 16Gb per channel.
  • Core Voltage/IO Voltage: 1.05V, 0.50V - Lower Core and IO power helps reduce power consumption, a key advantage over standard DRAM (see datasheets which may also support 0.45V or 0.60V VDDQ options).
  • Data rates: 6400Mb/s(LPDDR5) / 8533Mb/s(LPDDR5x) - Up to two times faster compared to LPDDR4X at 4266Mb/s (Micron LPDDR4X data rates 4266Mb/s compared to max. LP5DDRX data rates 8533 Mb/s).
  • Power Consumption: 15% I/O energy reduction compared to LPDDR4X with new power saving features - Delivers low power consumption for a more efficient design (Energy reduction is attributed to lower VDDQ (0.5V for LPDDR5/LPDDR5X) compared to LPDDR4X VDDQ= 0.6V and additional power saving features ).

Applications

  • Autonomous vehicles, driver-assist systems, infotainment
  • Complex AI/AR/VR, intelligent edge devices, drones
  • DSLR camera, home automation, AR/VR medical rehabilitation
