Nexperia BUK9xx
Automotive ASFET's for airbag applications
When choosing a MOSFET to regulate the supply voltage to the squibs in an airbag system, the choice has traditionally been limited to older generations of silicon technology, such as the legacy wire-bonded DPAK package. The MOSFET must be able to handle a current proportional to the number of squibs in the system, whilst regulating their supply voltage for long enough to activate the airbags. Nexperia have designed a range of Application Specific MOSFETS (ASFETs) to address the specialised needs of airbag applications, focused on enhanced SOA performance for improved linear mode.
Key features
- Headline product the BUK9M20-60EL single N-ch 60 V, 13 mOhm logic level MOSFET in LFPAK33
- Exceptional transient linear mode performance, key in airbag applications
- LFPAK33 uses 84% less board space versus DPAK, while still maintaining robustness.
- Enhanced safe operating area technology
Additional features
Automotive ASFETs for Airbag are designed to meet the needs of linear mode operation:
- Qualified to AEC-Q101
- Increased SOA for improved linear mode performance
- Reliable in airbag deployment conditions
- Modern trench alternative to older generations of silicon technology
- Space saving efficiency (53% for LFPAK56, 84% for LFPAK33) when comparing to traditional DPAK packages
- All copper-clip benefits such as low thermal resistance, low package resistance and high current capability
Applications
- 12V Automotive systems
- Airbag squib voltage regulator MOSFET
